TFS middle school track & field teams finish season with Tri-State victory

 
 

The sun and the Tallulah Falls School student-athletes were shining at the season-culminating Tri-State Middle School Track & Field Championships at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.

The 33-member TFS boys team and the 20-member TFS girls team each won a championship banner.

TFS girls won 10 of 14 events while the boys were victorious in five events. Both TFS teams have won the championship each of the nine years the conference has been in existence, said Athletic Director Coach Neal.

Seventh-grader Julianne Shirley of Clarkesville won the 200m and 400m in personal record times; she also leaped to victory in the high jump.  Eighth-grader Sammy Hartman of Clermont hurdled to two titles while seventh-grader Ellie Southards of Dillard threw the discus and shot put well beyond her opponents.

Eighth-grader Layne Kafsky of Clarkesville crossed the 100m line in front of all others.  Both the 4x1 relay (seventh-grader Jace Ibemere of Decatur, Shirley, Kafsky, Southards) and the 4x4 relay (Southards, eighth-grader Emma Jackson of Clayton, eighth-grader Kate Trotter of Cornelia, Shirley) claimed relay titles.

Other notable performances include personal bests from eighth-grader Emma Barrett of Clarkesville, sixth-grader Victoria VerBerkmoes of Toccoa, sixth-grader Chesney Tanksley of Mt. Airy, eighth-grader Cassidy Hayes of Cornelia, Trotter, Kafsky, Ibemere, eighth-grader Tori Tilley of Tallulah Falls, Barrett, Southards, Hartman, eighth-grader Ellesen Eubank of Tallulah Falls, and eighth-grader Nasha Dembele of Tampa, FL.

Earning victories on the boys side were eighth-grader Nelson Wilkinson of Cleveland (discus, 200m), eighth-grader Colton Hicks of Clarkesville (1600m), and eighth-grader Lincoln Hall of Mt. Airy (long jump).

The 4x4 relay team (seventh-grader Austin Ball of Tiger, eighth-grader Dallas Loonubon of Demorest, sixth-grader KC Respress of Cleveland, Wilkinson) came back in the last meters to tie for the win (tied down to the one-hundredth of a second).  

Personal record performances were set by Respress, Wilkinson, Ball, seventh-grader CJ Augustine of Demorest, sixth-grader Nick Edenfield of Toccoa, Hicks, sixth-grader Aiden VanOrman of Clarkesville, sixth-grader David Plaisted of Toccoa, sixth-grader Clay Kafsky of Clarkesville, eighth-grader Gavin Atkinson of Sautee, sixth-grader Zach Freeman of Demorest, eighth-grader Seth Justice of Tiger, sixth-grader Teryk Tilley of Tallulah Falls, seventh-grader Jackson Pollock of Toccoa, sixth-grader Bryce Welch of Clayton, Hall, seventh-grader Ethan Simmons of Demorest, seventh-grader Josiah Turney of Murrayville, eighth-grader Songjie Jason Zhou of China, seventh-grader Tatum Myers of Demorest, seventh-grader Talan Adams of Clayton, and seventh-grader Sam Ketch of Clarkesville.
