TFS coaches name Indians of the Month

Tallulah Falls School coaches have selected their Indian athletes of the month for September.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL

Seventh-grader Chesney Tanksley of Mt. Airy was selected as an Indian of the Month by middle school volleyball coach Whittney LaHayne. “Chesney has made tremendous improvements over the past few months,” LaHayne said. “She hustles on the floor and scores points just from sheer tenacity. Chesney showed tremendous mental toughness and grit in our region tournament last week and helped us to achieve fourth place in the tournament.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

Eighth-grader Austin Ball of Tiger was named an Indian of the Month by middle school boys soccer coach Travis Mullis. “Austin has displayed consistent dedication to developing his skills, encouraging his teammates and displaying toughness on the field,” Mullis said. “He has co-captained his team to a 9-1-0 regular-season record. Austin also led the charge to raise $1,500 to support two organizations that provide aid in Haiti for the team’s service project.”

VARSITY GIRL

Senior Laurel Smith of Clayton was selected as an Indian of the Month by cross country coach Scott Neal. “Laurel has run cross country for all four years of high school,” Neal said. “She deftly fulfills a critical team leadership role, is deeply admired and respected by teammates and represents her team with a GREAT attitude. Laurel’s behind-the-scenes ripple effect is felt among the hundreds that run on our course, in the lifelong memories team members create and through the special activities and traditions created for those who come after her.”

VARSITY BOY

Freshman Zhigao Henry Xiong of China was named an Indian of the Month by cross country coach Scott Neal. “Henry has improved his 5K time in every race so far this season,” Neal said. “He dreams big, trains diligently and adds a sense of expectation and wonder to the team. Henry pursues excellence while willing to suffer the inherent discomfort of varsity cross country success.”
