TFS coaches name Indians of the Week

Tallulah Falls School coaches have selected Indian Athletes of the Week for Oct. 21-26.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL

Seventh-grader Skylar Dixon of Gainesville was selected as an Indian of the Week by swim coach Rachel Nichols. “Skylar is in her first year as a swimmer at TFS and continues to show enthusiasm in the pool,” Nichols said. “She has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic by pushing herself mentally and physically during a difficult set. Skylar always comes to practice with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

Seventh-grader Cole Borchers of Demorest was named an Indian of the Week by swim coach Rachel Nichols. “Cole is a first-year swimmer and always has a positive attitude at practice,” Nichols said. “He has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and toughness and continues to work hard at practice to improve his stroke technique. I look forward to seeing his growth this season.”

VARSITY GIRL

Senior Captain Sophie Alexander of Sautee Nacoochee, a TFS cross country “lifer,” placed ninth of 57 harriers in 22:39.10 at the A-Private Area 2 XC Championship to lead the Lady Indians to a fourth-place team finish and the first state qualifying advancement by a TFS girls cross country team.  “Sophie went on to place 38th of 109 in 22:19 for the difficult Carrollton state course, the second-fastest TFS female time at the pinnacle meet in well over a couple decades,” said coach Scott Neal.

VARSITY BOY

Though seeded twelfth in A-Private Area 2 preceding the area cross country championship, senior Chris Geiger of Sautee Nacoochee used superb strategy, tactical intelligence, and gutsy determination to run a course best time to place fifth, which qualified him to run at state as an individual, but also helped the team to place fourth and advance to race in Carrollton for the first time since 1990, said coach Scott Neal. “Chris followed that up with a 14th place finish at the State Championships, far better than the 60th ranking before the meet, to help the team finish ninth overall,” Neal said. “Chris inspired his team in the last two weeks of the season by confidently and convincingly racing his best ever.”
