TFS Lady Indians open season with 62-25 rout over Mount Vernon

Tallulah Falls School’s varsity girls’ basketball team opened their season in a big way on Tuesday, Nov. 12, defeating Mount Vernon 62-25.

The Lady Indians put forth a total team effort, with four players scoring in double figures.

Freshman Denika Lightbourne of the Bahamas led the way for the Lady Indians with a double-double, posting 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Fellow freshman, Veronaye Charlton of the Bahamas, contributed 10 points and led the team with five steals.

Junior Katy Corbett of Lakemont stuffed the stat sheet for the Lady Indians, with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Freshman Sammeka Hepburn of the Bahamas also added 10 points and two steals for TFS.

“We are very proud of the team effort and encouragement displayed on the court last night,” head coach Brandy Corbett said.

TFS only had 14 days of practice leading up to their first game, but the Lady Indians were able to get their season off to a strong start. Every player on the Lady Indians’ roster was able to see time on the court, Corbett said.

TFS will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, as they travel to Atlanta to take on the 2-0 Scots of the Galloway School.
