TFS swim teams launch season with strong start

 
 

 

The Tallulah Falls School varsity and middle school swim teams got off to a strong, state-qualifying start at the Rockin’ Raider Invitational on Saturday, November 2, in Clarkesville. This was the Indians’ first meet for the 2019-20 season, and the varsity Tribe qualified for four different state meets, while the team as a whole had more than 20 personal records broken. 

The varsity boys set the tone for TFS, finishing the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.15 to qualify for state. The state-qualifying team, consisting of senior John Nichols of Clarkesville, senior Caden Griffis of Tallulah Falls, freshman Nelson Wilkinson of Cleveland and senior Hunter Weyrich of Alto, also qualified for the state meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.76. Nichols and Weyrich continued to show out at the meet, and individually qualified for state in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.

TFS middle school boys placed fifth overall out of 12 teams, while the middle school girls placed fifth out of 10 teams. TFS varsity girls placed fifth out of 15 teams, while the varsity boys placed third out of 12 teams. 

The TFS swim teams will be competing again this upcoming Saturday, November 9, starting at 9:15 a.m. in Clarkesville at the Hawaiian Luau Invitational.
