TFS Indians victorious over White County in home opener

In a 65-58 win over White County on Nov. 19, Tallulah Falls School senior Matthew Weidner of Demorest scored his 1,000th point for the Indians.

The varsity and JV boys basketball teams each picked up victories in their 2019-20 season home debut.

The varsity team came out of the gate hot, putting up 20 first-quarter points. The Warriors battled back in the second, taking the lead near the end of the half, but the Indians made it back heading into the locker room at halftime.

Then in the third quarter, Weidner scored his 1000th point, fueling a TFS run to stretch the lead to double digits.

Once the Indians secured a double-digit lead in the third, there was no looking back. TFS was able to keep White County at bay the rest of the contest until the Warriors hit some late 3-pointers to cut the deficit to seven.

In the JV game, TFS came out of the gates slow, only scoring four points in the first half. Coming out of the halftime break motivated and inspired, the Indians fought their way back into the game.

Thanks to a stellar third quarter, TFS held the advantage heading into the fourth. The Indians’ free throw shooting was put to the test, as they had to make several down the stretch to put the game away.

TFS was able to secure the victory, 65-58.

Both teams will be in action again, along with the varsity girls, on Nov. 22 against Pinecrest Academy, starting at 4:30 p.m.
