TFS honors outstanding students, faculty, staffÂ
Tallulah Falls School has announced its outstanding students, faculty and staff for 2019.
Award winners were surprised at a Dec. 18 assembly prior to students being dismissed for the Christmas break on Dec. 19.
“It is my pleasure to recognize excellence through these annual awards,” said President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy. “I offer my congratulations to these deserving honorees for their dedication to our TFS community.”
This year’s award-winners were announced as follows: eighth-grader Ethan Simmons of Demorest, outstanding middle school student of the year; sixth-grade English teacher Travis Mullis, outstanding middle school faculty member of the year; senior Whit Fordham of Cornelia, outstanding upper school student of the year; culinary arts teacher Whitney Calloway, outstanding upper school faculty member of the year; Athletics Facilities/Grounds Manager Steve Hanifan-Wagner, outstanding staff member of the year; and Director of Plant Services Michael Rogers, Light in the Mountains honoree [outstanding senior staff member of the year].
Also during the assembly, winners of the Christmas card art contest were announced.
The winning card for the upper school was designed by sophomore Emily Smith of Cleveland with the winning card for the middle school card was designed by eighth-grader Joseph McGahee of Clarkesville.
Second place for the middle school card contest was seventh-grader Miah Gragg of Clarkesville and third place was seventh-grader Julia Smith of Cornelia.
Second place for the upper school card contest was sophomore Trevor Bramlett of Clarkesville and third place was sophomore Qiyue Zeng of China.
“This is a wonderful way to showcase student talent each year,” Peevy said.
Winners of the door decorating contest were announced and prizes were presented by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-Georgia members Martha Lee Sherman and Linda Mote. Members of the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club visited TFS recently to judge the door decor.
Additionally, Sherman presented senior class president Gabe Illuma with a donation toward the recent Winter Semi-Formal.
Other recognition during the assembly included Director of Security Dustin Rogers, presented with a Georgia Independent School Association award for 25 years of service and President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy presented with a game ball by senior Reeves Cody in honor of Peevy’s military service. Peevy was out of the town for the recent Military Appreciation Night, held during a varsity basketball game.

President honored for military service
Director of Security Dustin Rogers recognized Larry A. Peevy for Peevy’s military service at a year-end assembly held Dec. 19. Peevy was out of the town for the recent Military Appreciation Night, held during a varsity basketball game. Senior Reeves Cody presented a game ball to Peevy during the assembly.
