TFS middle school earns a pair of wins against Lanier Christian

The TFS middle school teams played host on Saturday to Lanier Christian, with the girls team and the boys "A" team earning victories, while the "B" team dropped a closely contested game.

MS BOYS "B" TEAM

The Indians "B" Team took on a pesky Lanier Christian team, falling 24-18. Both teams struggled to find any traction in the first quarter, as the game was knotted at 2 apiece. The visitors pulled away a little in the second, though Merrick Carnes and Elijah Barker both had buckets for the Indians. Lanier held a 10-7 lead at the break.

The third quarter saw Lanier hit a pair of big 3-pointers to take an 18-9 lead, but Gavin Taylor hit a big three of his own, and Jackson Savage hit a jumper to pull it to within 18-14 going into the fourth. LC started to pull away again before Savage banked home a 3-pointer to pull it to 24-17 and force a timeout with 2:26 left. He hit the only other shot, a free throw, late in the quarter.

Barker played well defensively with multiple blocks and rebounds, and scored two points. Savage led TFS with 10 points, while Taylor had three. Five different Indians scored in the tough loss. The "B" Team is now 0-4 on the season.

MS GIRLS

The Lady Indians continued their winning ways with their third straight victory, 40-3 over Lanier Christian. TFS was hot out of the gate, going on a 22-0 run that ended with a second quarter bucket by Lanier Christian. The first quarter saw the girls go up 20-0. Breelyn Wood played well in all areas of the game, and led the way with 8 first half points. Haygen James also had 8 in the first half, while Lizzie Huebner and Millie Holcomb both had 6 in the first half, giving the Lady Indians a 34-2 lead at the break.

The third quarter saw the offense come to a standstill, as TFS outscored Lanier Christian 4-1 to take a commanding 38-3 lead into the final quarter. Wood, Holcomb, and James all finished with eight points, while Huebner had six. Gemma Farris and Chesney Tanksley both had four in the win. Gracey Ash had two points as well.

Much of the second half was played with a running clock. The girls are now 3-0 on the season and play again on Tuesday at home against Rabun Gap.

MS BOYS "A" TEAM

The TFS "A" team got out to a 6-1 start to open their game against Lanier Christian, and went on to a 51-30 win. The defense didn't give much opportunity to the visitors, and a couple of Teryk Tilley buckets early on set the tone. Zach Carringer hit a 3-pointer from the corner to give TFS a sizable 9-1 early lead. The Indians led 11-5 after the opening quarter.

Tanner Davis had an impressive 3-point play to open the second and pad the lead to 14-5. That increased to 26-7 by the break. Tilley had eight points in the half, while Carringer had five, and both Jackson Carlan and Zach Freeman both had four going into halftime. TFS outscored Lanier 15-2 in the second quarter alone.

Both teams came out scoring in the third quarter, as a Carlan basket forced a timeout with 3:07 to go in the third and TFS up 33-17. Going into the final quarter, TFS had a 41-22 cushion. Noah Page and Chase Pollock both connected on clutch 3-pointers to stop a Lanier Christian run and squash their momentum.

Tilley and Carlan both finished with 10 to lead the Indians, while Clay Kafsky finished with eight and Carringer seven. Pollock had five, and Page and Davis finished with three each.

The Indians move to 2-0 on the season and return to action December 8 at home against Rabun Gap.
