TFS middle school swim team celebrates strong season

The Tallulah Falls School middle school swim team finished the 2019-020 season on Jan. 18 at the Georgia Independent School Association Middle School State Championship at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

“Nerves were high as the ‘tweens entered the natatorium where many notable names such as Michael Phelps, Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Lochte, Kelsi Worrell, and Katie Ledecky had competed before them,” said coach Rachel Nichols. “The nerves were overcome for an altogether successful day of swimming.”

Eighth-grader Henry Rickman of Tiger swam to top-eight finishes in all three of his individual events (100-yard individual medley, 50-yard fly, and 100-yard freestyle).

Sixth-grader Jack Thomson of Clarkesville, seventh-grader Clay Kafsky of Clarkesville, eighth-grader Carter Miller of Demorest, seventh-grader Cole Borchers of Cornelia, and seventh-grader Jedd Thomas of Cleveland all swam to personal best times in their individual events.

The boys’ team placed ninth overall at the meet, Nichols said.

Sixth-grader Carsyn Griffis of Tallulah Falls, eighth-grader Brooke Hayes of Cornelia, seventh-grader Skylar Dixon of Gainesville and seventh-grader Mia Hamon of Mt. Airy all swam to personal best times in their individual events.

“The young girls’ team did not place but have their sights set with a goal to place for next season,” Nichols said. “We are very proud of our TFS middle school swimmers and their accomplishments this season!”
