Six straight for middle school tennis after boys, girls cruise past Habersham

Another match, another win for the TFS middle school tennis boys and girls teams. Both teams move to 6-0 on the season with dominant wins over visiting Habersham Central on Monday afternoon. The girls picked up a 5-0 win, and the boys won 4-1.

"Only giving up four games out of 40 is such a huge accomplishment," adds coach Lisa Wilcox of the girls team. "Not knowing what to expect, each of these girls gave 100% and it showed. Their improvement in each of their strokes, serves and swings definitely showed yesterday. Congratulations to each of these young ladies."

The boys took a 4-1 win, and TJ Cox's 8-9 losing by a 'gnat's hair' according to Wilcox.

"TJ played his heart out," says Wilcox. "His points were long and hard-fought. All matches were completed, girls and boys, and TJ was still playing. Unbelievable."

Playing Habersham, a local rival, is already enough. But these two teams had a little added motivation for this one.

"We played this team in the championship last year and we knew it was going to be a tough match," says Wilcox. "Both their #1 singles and #2 singles were undefeated coming into our match yesterday."

Wilcox pointed out also that Tanner Davis had never won against his opponent, and was serving and returning well, earning an 8-3 win.
