Lady Indians blast Prince Avenue, take third straight win; JV wins tight one

 
 

The TFS girls basketball teams took a pair of wins over Prince Avenue Christian on the road in Friday night region action. For the varsity team, it equaled a three-game winning streak.

VARSITY

The Lady Indians routed Prince Avenue, 53-34 on the road to run their win streak to three games. The girls jumped out to a 18-9 lead in the first quarter, and spread the gap to 36-15 going into the halftime break. Katy Corbet had a monster first quarter with eight points, including a 3-pointer. It was sophomore Veronaye Charlton who stood out in the second with a 10-point effort.

Prince Avenue outscored TFS 11-9 in the third, pulling within 45-26. Both teams scored eight in the fourth, as the Lady Indians came away with the 53-34 win.

Charlton led all scorers with 17 points, while Denika Lightbourne dropped in 14 and Corbett eight. Iray Adeleke and Barrett Whitener both finished with five, while Abby Carlan and Kailyn Neal had two apiece. TFS is now 11-4 overall and 4-1 in region play. The girls play again on Saturday night at home.

JV

The Lady Indians JV team edged out Prince Avenue Christian 39-33. It took a comeback for TFS to earn the win, as the girls trailed 11-8 after one quarter of play. The defense stepped up big and held the home team to just two points in the third while taking a 20-10 lead into the break. 

Prince Ave outscored TFS 10-8 in the third, making it a 28-20 game going into the final stanza. Macy Murdock hit a clutch 3-pointer and a couple more buckets in the fourth to hold off PAC and win 39-33.

Barrett Whitener had a team-high 13 points, including nine in the second quarter alone. Murdock had nine, Tanisha Seymour had six, and Kailyn Neal dropped in four. Allie Phasavang added three, while Maebree Holcomb and Kyndal Anderson scored two apiece. The JV team is 4-3 overall on the season.
