Indians of the Month - August 2021
Tallulah Falls School has named its Indians of the Month winners for August 2021. The winners are Sarah Jennings and Walker Bailey for the high school, and Carsyn Griffis and Gavin Simmons for the middle school. PAST INDIANS OF THE MONTH
Sarah Jennings - Volleyball
HS Girl
Sarah Jennings has done a remarkable job leading the way for the month of August. She is leading all players that see a lot of playing time in aces, serve rating, kills per match, serves receive rating, and digs per match. She plays all six rotations and contributes all around the court. Sarah is also one of the leaders when it comes to the mental and emotional side of the game. She is always trying to spur her team on to achieve greatness and she leads by her example and her voice. -coach Matt Heyl
Walker Bailey - Cross Country
HS Boy
Junior Walker Bailey ran over 40 miles per week since school let out in May in order to prepare for the 2021 cross country campaign. His diligence and discipline have certainly paid off - he finished eighth of 183 in the varsity division and 55th of 310 overall boys while running a personal 5k record and 1:30 faster than last year on the same course over the same weekend. Walker was part of the last two years' state qualifying teams and is now earning the process to make it three in a row. He is a team-oriented and determined competitor! -coach Scott Neal
Carsyn Griffis - Cross Country
MS Girl
The fortitude of Carsyn Griffis has strengthened exponentially through an incredible amount of heart wrenching adversity, having lost her oldest brother five months ago and her father this month. She ran 1:50 faster on the same Lamar Murphy Park cross country course than she did the same day in 2020 while being the #1 TFS middle school runner and leading the team to a 10th place finish among 20 scoring schools. Carsyn is incredibly determined, poised, highly empathetic, and a true light in the mountains! -coach Scott Neal
Gavin Simmons - Cross Country
MS Boy
Seventh grader Gavin Simmons ran over the summer to prepare for the cross country season, and his dedication paid significant dividends. In his first race of the 2021 season, Gavin cut off four minutes - yes, four minutes! - on the same Lamar Murphy Park 3200 course and the same weekend as in 2020. Gavin is also quick to help the team in any situation, constantly displays a positive outlook, and pushes himself daily in practice. He is a solid example of hard work paying off! -coach Scott Neal
