MS boys open season at Riverside

The TFS middle school basketball teams traveled to Gainesville with planned games against Riverside Military Academy. Instead, they got a two-for-one, as Gainesville joined in due to a scheduling mishap, resulting in both TFS teams playing abbreviated season-opening games.

The B-Team played first, taking on Riverside in the first game and coming out with a 10-6 win. The Indians scored three points in the first quarter and edged Riverside 7-6 in the second to secure the win. William NeSmith and Isaac Farris both had three points. NeSmith had six offensive rebounds while Farris had five steals as part of a 20-steal team effort. Lincoln Hicks had 2 points, while Liam Burke and Jack Green both had one point. Green added four rebounds and three steals.

In the second abbreviated contest, Gainesville beat TFS 28-6. NeSmith, Burke, and Ethan Phasavang each had two points. The B-Team is now 1-1 on the season.

The A-Team opened with Gainesville, and dropped a 26-3 contest. The lone points came from Asa Popham (two) and Macade Huff (one). Gainesville led 13-3 going into the second quarter. In the second game against Riverside, TFS held a lead until the final minute when Riverside scored the go-ahead bucket in what was a 20-19 final.

Popham scored seven points and added a pair of steals in the tough loss, while Huff had five points. Jackson Savage nailed a late 3-pointer, and added four rebounds, a steal, assist, and block. Elijah Barker, Ethan Wheeler, and Kaden Hunter each had two points. The A-Team is 0-2 on the season, and both teams play against Riverside in a rematch on Thursday at home.
