MS basketball splits at Victory Christian
The TFS middle school basketball teams took on Victory Christian on the road Thursday evening, with the girls falling after holding an early lead, and the boys coming out with a win.
The Lady Indians dropped a 30-16 decision despite holding a slim lead of 8-6 at the end of the first and a 14-12 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Victory went on a 16-0 run to take a commanding 28-14 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Indians scored only 2 points in the second half.
Emily Cai led all TFS scorers with 6 points and 18 rebounds, as well as 5 steals. LB Kafsky had 6 points as well, adding 4 steals. Charlotte Stafford and Lupita Carrillo both had 2 points apiece. The Lady Indians are 1-2 on the season.
The Indians B-Team played Victory immediately after the girls finished up, and earned a 38-17 win. After a low-scoring first quarter in which the Indians led just 3-0, the offense ignited in the second quarter. TFS outscored Victory 11-8 in the second, taking a 14-8 lead into the break.
The Indians stretched the lead to 24-13 going into the final quarter, and finished the game on a 14-4 run. Jack Green led all scorers with 13 points, including a 3-pointer. He also had 4 steals in the win. William NeSmith had 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 steals for a near triple-double. Ethan Phasavang had 4 points and 3 steals, while Isaac Farris had 4 points as well. Liam Burke, Brantley Addison, and Ryder Cantrell all chipped in with 2 points apiece. Lincoln Hicks added one point. The boys are now 4-1 on the season.
