MS swimmers finish strong in 'Ahoy Me Hearties' Invitational

The TFS Middle School swim team faced new challenges at the Ahoy Me Hearties Invitational at home on Friday.

"Swimmers were tasked with swimming 3 individual events, instead of 2, while also having the opportunity to swim in 100s of each stroke as well as the 200-yard freestyle," states coach Rachel Nicols. "These are varsity level distances, giving middle school swimmers an opportunity to try something new and test their endurance."

Both middle school teams rose to the challenge, with the boys team placing 2nd out of 6 teams and the girls team placing 1st out of 6 teams.

Swimmers that earned top 3 individual finishes include Olivia Henderson, Keira Webb, Charlie Harris, Carsyn Griffis, Molly Rickman, Adelaide Tatum, Frankie Pribyl, and Harry Goldfine.

Several swimmers also achieved new personal records in at least one individual event. These swimmers include Olivia Henderson, Teagan Penland, Keira Webb, Harry Goldfine, Martin Raybon, Caleb Kelly, Shepard Crumley, Charlie Harris, Frankie Pribyl, Ethan Williams, Molly Rickman, Carsyn Griffis, Emily Shoemaker, Laurel Blake Kafsky, Sarah Campbell, Veronica Verberkmoes, Stella Radford, Isabella McClain, Gracie Ingram, Penny Damron, Olivia Bonner, Elizabeth Stafford, and Derartu Kohler.

"We are so proud of our middle school swimmers who took on this new challenge and looked at it with a positive attitude," adds Nichols.

The next middle school meet and final meet prior to the GISA middle school state championships will take place on January 21 at the TFS Natatorium at 5 PM.

"If you haven't had the opportunity to come to a meet this season, we encourage you to join us," says Nichols.
