Ketch seventh, Shirley 11th to highlight first day of State Championships

 
 

In the opening day of the 1A Private GHSA State Championships, Tallulah Falls had a pair of individuals who competed in their event finals at McEachern High School in Powder Springs.

Sam Ketch had a PR a good foot-plus over his previous best in the shot put, earning him a seventh-place finish with a 45-7 throw. Julianne Shirley placed 11th in the high jump with a 4-8 jump.

The TFS girls 4x200 relay, which put up a school record time at the state sectionals, qualified on Thursday for the state finals, finishing seventh in the prelims with a new school record of 1:47. The girls 4x800 meanwhile ran their finals race, coming in 14th overall, setting a season best by about 15 seconds. The boys 4x800 on Thursday came in 16th overall.

Macy Murdock is slated to run in the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles on Friday, and Shirley still gets to compete in the 400 meter dash. Still to compete on Friday and Saturday are the girls 4x200 and 4x400, and boys 4x100.
