Season Recap: MS Volleyball

It was a season marked by growth and development for the MS volleyball teams. With such a large number of girls continuing to show interest in the sport, the middle school program created an A- and B-team.

The A-Team opened the season with three straight wins before suffering its first loss at Rabun County. Both teams then competed in the Warrior Rumble Tournament at West Oak (SC), where the A-Team won three matches and the B-Team got significant experience. While the A-Team began to rack up wins, the B-Team showed great improvement, starting with a pair of ties against Elbert County and Banks County, with a win against Commerce in between.

The B-Team later picked up wins over Stephens County and South Habersham to close their season in style. The A-Team, after placing fifth in the regular season in the Georgia Middle School Volleyball League, fell in the first round of the tournament against Banks County. The girls then rebounded to beat Rabun County in a consolation match to place eighth overall.

The A-Team went 10-8 overall, while the B-Team finished with a 3-8-2 overall mark.

"The girls gained lots of valuable experience throughout the season," adds coach Jo Kimbrel. "As a team and as individuals, we got better. Both teams played possibly their best in their final games of the season."

The roster is full of young players who can build off this season, and five eighth graders that will move on next season to the upper school.

"Our eighth-graders really stepped up in leadership with the other players," says Kimbrel. "I look forward to watching them as they continue to grow. Everyone gained confidence throughout the season, and both teams learned how to attack the ball at the net. I"m super proud of all these players' efforts."
