MS Indians finish runner-up in League Tournament, Girls fall in semis

The MS tennis teams took the short route to Rabun County on Wednesday afternoon to compete in the season-ending Southern Mountain League Tournament. The Indians earned a trip to the championship match, while the girls fell in the semifinals.

Both the girls and boys opened play in the semifinals. The Lady Indians fell to Macon County in a close 3-2 contest decided by a tiebreaker. Meanwhile, the Indians cruised past Rabun Gap in a 3-0 final to set up a title showdown with host Rabun County. The home team won 3-0 to secure a perfect season.

"In the girls match, Olivia [Bonner] was down 4-7 and came back to 8-7 and then lost in a tough tiebreak," says coach Anthony Cox. "The girls singles really came ready to play."

The Lady Indians finish with a 6-5 record overall, while the boys ended their campaign at 8-4.

"Elijah [Pinney] was huge at 3-singles against an opponent who had dominated him last time," adds Cox. "Our doubles were great from the start."
