MS Indians cruise past Towns County, Lady Indians take hard-fought loss
The Tallulah Falls MS basketball teams earned a Thursday home split against Towns County, as the boys cruised to a big 49-24 win. The girls dropped a tough 26-18 final.
The Indians scored the first 12 points of the game to take a commanding lead, and never looked back. Anthony Deane got the first two buckets, and Isaac Farris drained a 3-pointer to go up 10-0 and force a Towns timeout. It was part of a 12-0 run, and TFS led 14-5 at the end of the quarter.
Derrick Lane's long jumper opened up the second, and back-to-back layups by Brian Neely, Jr. continued to put the game out of reach. Asa Popham hit a triple as well, and the boys found themselves up 27-15. Another quick burst for the Indians in the third extended the lead up to 39-19 going into the final frame. In the fourth, Lane got a pair of baskets including draining a three.
TFS is now 3-0 on the season. Neely, Jr. paced the Indians with a game-high 19 points, and Deane was right behind with 13. Lane finished with seven points, while Popham and Farris had three apiece. Lincoln Hicks and Ethan Phasavang had two points each.
The Lady Indians fell in a 26-18 contest, and Towns County went on a good run to open the game. Payton McEntire got the first bucket for TFS in the first, and a putback by LB Kafsky had the game within 8-4 in the first. Towns County closed the quarter with a comfortable 13-4 lead.
The Lady Indians scored 10 points in the second, eight of which came at the free throw line. Kafsky added in a jumper that shaved into the deficit, as Towns held a 17-14 lead at the break. In the third, TFS was held scoreless, while Towns County struggled as well to just two points. The visitors pulled away in the fourth, but Handley James connected on a long jumper, and Kafsky added a late layup.
Kafsky closed with a team-high eight points, while Nora Mitchell had five, McEntire three, and James two. The girls move to 1-2 on the season.
