MS Indians bring out the bats in 14-3 win at Rabun Gap

The MS Indians used a pair of 4-run innings to secure a 14-3 win at Rabun Gap on Thursday evening.

TFS got on the board in the first on a 2-run inside-the-park homerun by Asa Popham. It was one of three such homeruns for TFS in the game. Rabun Gap scratched across a run in the second to make it a 2-1 game, but the Indians got 2 runs from a fielder's choice error off the bat of Reilly Cox. A miscue by the shortstop brought in a pair of runs.

The Eagles got a 2-run inning of their own in the home half, chasing starter Woods Irvin, who went 2.1 innings while striking out 4 batters and allowing 3 earned runs. Drew Barron came in relief and shut down Rabun Gap the rest of the way, going 3.2 innings while allowing no walks and only one bloop hit while striking out 8 to earn the win.

In the top of the fourth and up 4-3, TFS pulled away for good. The Indians got a 2-out RBI single from Popham, followed by a 2-run triple by Barron. Reilly Cox followed with an RBI single for the 8-3 lead. Tallulah got another 4-spot on the board in the fifth, as William NeSmith hit a ball in the gap and raced all the way around for a 3-run inside-the-park homer. Popham had a bloop RBI double to right to increase the lead up to 12-3.

The final touch came in the sixth, when Cox led off the frame and laced a hit to the outfield that got past the centerfielder. Cox circled the bases to push the advantage up to 13-3. Fenn NeSmith had an RBI single for the game's final run, and Barron shut down Rabun Gap in the final inning with 3 strikeouts.

Popham had 4 hits including a homer, double, 4 RBI, 3 runs, and 3 stolen bases. Barron had 3 hits including a triple with 2 RBI, 2 runs, and 2 SB. NeSmith had 3 hits as well with a homerun, 3 RBI, 3 runs, and 2 SB. Cox had 2 hits, 3 RBI, and a run. Brantley Addison and Ryder Cantrell each had 2 hits as well, as the Indians closed with 19 hits in total. Of the many big moments in the game, Ryan Anderson snagged a sinking line drive to center and threw a dart to first base to double off the runner and end an inning.

TFS moves to 2-1 overall on the season.
