State Playoff Preview: Indians Baseball

For the second time in three years, the Indians are playoff bound. TFS secured a 3-seed from Region 8-A DI, and hold an overall mark of 12-15. Despite a 3-game losing streak to end the regular season, the Indians have had a tough schedule both in region and out to prepare for the playoffs.

The season has seen TFS come within one win of the school-record 13 set in 2021, which was the first season under coach Justin Pollock. The team's 171 total runs scored is second-most in program history, as the offense has put up 10 or more runs eight times this season.

At the plate, senior Frankey Moree leads in nearly every category. He sports a .468 batting average with 44 hits (school record), 7 homeruns (school record), 21 RBI, and 32 runs scored. Moree has become the school's all-time leader in hits, homeruns, and runs scored. Caden Walker (.362 AVG, 1 HR, 12 RBI), Danny Grant (.325, 17 RBI), and Zaiden Cox (.325, 17 RBI) have also done much of the heavy lifting at bat. Rohajae Pinder (.297, 1 HR, 21 RBI) and Chase Pollock (.297, 7 RBI) have also done well.

Pollock carries a 6-2 record on the mound, setting a single-season wins record. He has a 2.91 ERA and has 30 strikeouts to his credit. Cole Bonitatibus (3-5, 3.22 ERA, 46 K) and Andrew Skvarka (1-3, 2.72 ERA, 22 K) have performed well this year for the Indians. Moree has 11 appearances in relief, recording a school-record 3 saves.

The Indians will travel to Region Runner-Up Darlington. The Tigers are 18-12 overall, and have gone 9-6 on their home field. Darlington averages 7.3 runs per game, and gives up just under 3.5. Their go-to offensive weapon is senior Logan Floyd, who has severa homeruns and is the team's leader in average, RBI, hits, homers, doubles, and runs. Floyd is also the team's number two starter, carrying a 2.92 ERA. Fellow senior Hill Shropshire has a 1.20 ERA and is the ace of the staff.

The series is a best-of-three that begins on Thursday, April 27, with Friday reserved as Game 3 if neccessary.
