Season Recap: Baseball

The Indians in many ways took a step forward in 2023. The record of 12-17 isn't quite indicative of how well the team shaped up. Tallulah Falls tallied a third straight 12-plus win campaign, and made the state playoffs for just the second time ever. The 3rd-place finish in Region 8-A DI is also a program-best.

Among the notable achievements of this Indians team includes a win over #1-ranked Elbert County, and nearly topping #1 Prince Avenue Christian and Elbert a separate time. The offense combined for 171 runs, second in program history only to last year's record-setting lineup. A 4-game win streak within this year's schedule matched a program record as well.

But what really set the Indians apart from the last couple of seasons was the pitching, which has shown a lot of promise for next year and beyond. This season featured a trio of underclassmen with ERAs under 4.20. Andrew Skvarka (2 wins, 2.66 ERA, 25 K), Chase Pollock (6 wins, 3.85 ERA, 30 K), and Cole Bonitatibus (3 wins, 4.20 ERA, 50 K) had solid seasons on the mound. Frankey Moree also had 3 saves (TFS record) and he and Rohajae Pinder (42 K) were also used often.

Offensively, Moree set several records in a season that saw him earn Region 8-A DI Player of the Year honors. He hit .449 (4th-highest in school history), with a record 44 hits, 7 homeruns (record), 21 RBI, and 32 runs. Moree's career year gives him the top spot in TFS history in all-time hits (86), HR (9), and runs (66), and he is second all-time in RBI (56), doubles (14), triples (5), stolen bases (23), and walks (28), while finishing third in career batting average (.354).

Beyond Moree, Caden Walker (.347, 1 HR, 12 RBI), Danny Grant (.321, 17 RBI), Zaiden Cox (.316, 15 RBI), and Pinder (.294, 1 HR, 21 RBI) were anchors in the lineup. Pollock (.286, 7 RBI), BJ Carver (17 RBI), Davante Brown (9 RBI), and Ashton Roache (8 RBI) were also mainstays in the lineup.

TFS took on Darlington in the opening round of the state playoffs, and fell in consecutive games to end their season.

Moree and Pinder earned 1st Team All-Region accolades, while Walker, Pollock, and Bonitatibus were 2nd Team members. Carver and Grant were Honorable Mentions. The Indians will graduate both Moree and Brown, but return a large amount of playmakers for next season.
