Season Recap: Cross Country

Throughout the 2023 cross country season, Tallulah Falls saw nearly every runner experience personal-bests. That translated to a team that was determined to outperform expectations each and every meet, regardless of the course.

TFS put together a memorable season, battling against tough competition, both weather extremes, and everything in between. Coach Scott Neal guided runners to embrace the pain that comes from running to your limit, then advancing pass that threshold.

In the region meet, TFS qualified both teams for the state meet. The Indians came in fourth, earning a fifth consecutive state berth. The Lady Indians came in third to take their third straight team state appearance.

Once at state, Tallulah Falls improved on its forecasted finish, as the girls placed seventh for the best finish in Lady Indians' history. The boys came in 13th, improving upon last year's 17th-place finish.

Freshman Avery Keim had a stellar season, leading TFS at region (7th) and state (31st). Classmate Olivia Henderson (9th at region) and junior Josie Chesser (Region 12th; State 32nd) were instrumental to the team's success, as well as Sara Bailey, Dani Prince, Delaney Johnson, and Carsyn Griffis among others.

Junior Timothy Beck and freshman Teagan Penland paced the boys throughout the season. Beck finished fourth at region and 38th at state, while Penland was 11th and 47th, respectively. Jackson Shadburn, Ryan Anderson, Alvaro Garcia Breton, Gavin Simmons, and Oier Linera Mallea all competed at state and were among the team leaders.

With only six total seniors moving on, the returning runners next season will have a chance to build off this season's success.
