Season Recap: MS Golf

The MS golf teams started out in February and never looked back. After a record number of tryouts, coaches had a tough time finalizing the rosters.

"The final team consisted of some with years of experience and some who didn't yet own clubs," says coach Jadie Hatcher. "What I'm most proud of overall is the commitment all of these players made and lived up to for the entire year."

Each player had marked improvement throughout the season, as the Lady Indians went 8-0 to finish off a third straight perfect season. The Indians dropped their first three matches but won the final five matches to close out strong.

"The progress made by each one of the members of this team can not be put into words to justify how happy I am with it," adds Hatcher. "To hear about members of the team playing 18 and 36 holes over the weekend with their parents and grandparents tells me I have succeeded as a coach by instilling the love of this game into the kids. Wins/losses/scores don't matter at this stage of development. The 'want to' and desire to improve daily was the goal from day one and I see evidence of that in this team."

The success for the girls included a second straight MS Championship. The boys had a great showing there as well. Throughout the season, Maeve Hatcher was a low medalist seven times and Sadie Henslee once. The boys were often paced by Owen Earp, who had six low medalist rounds, while Maddox English had one as well. Handley James and Joshua Newell were also both near the top of the team's scoring in any given match. Overall, the roster will largely remain intact, as only two 8th-graders move on to the high school level next season.

"These kids have grown as golfers but more importantly as people," states Hatcher. "The big secret to golf is to understand it will teach you patience, commitment, determination, and how to overcome obstacles in the path towards success.I can't wait to see the improvement made between now and February 2025 when we start back once again. It has been my privilege and honor to be the TFS Middle School Golf Coach and I'm counting down the days to do it again!"
