Indians win crucial series-opener against Athens Christian

In a series that will determine the region title, the #4 Indians made an early statement with a 10-0 blanking of #6 Athens Christian at home on Tuesday. With the win in the series-opener, TFS now needs only one win in the final two against Athens Christian to claim the program's first-ever region title.

After a pitcher's dual between the two sides left the game tied at 0-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Indians got something brewing in the home half. Chase Pollock had an RBI single to plate Ashton Roache, and Pollock scored later on a wild pitch.

Chris Waldron launched a homerun to lead off the third. Pollock had another run-scoring hit, and an error brought home two more to break the game open at 6-0. Meanwhile, starter Cole Bonitatibus was cruising. He struck out the side in the first and fourth, with the latter coming on just 13 pitches.

Diego Gonzalez added insult to injury with a 2-run single in the sixth. Caden Walker later in the inning brought home another, and Roache stole home for the 10th and final run, which triggered the mercy rule and ended the game.

Waldron, Pollock, Walker, and BJ Carver all had two hits apiece. Bonitatibus threw a complete game shutout, going six frames while striking out nine against just two hits and a walk. The Indians improve to 18-7 on the season and 12-1 in region play.

W: Cole Bonitatibus (6-0)
HR: Chris Waldron (2)
