TFS Celebrates Lower and Middle School Award Winners
On the morning of Tuesday, May 20, the 2024-25 academic year concluded for the lower and middle school students, faculty, staff, families, and friends at Tallulah Falls School. They gathered one final time to celebrate Awards Day. (Find pictures from Awards Day here: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCf29p)
The ceremony began with a welcome by President Dr. Larry A. Peevy, followed by a performance from the fourth-grade recorder ensemble and the TFS middle school choir.
President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy, Chief of Security Dustin Rogers, and Lower/Middle School Academic Dean Carol Madden recognized all presidential scholars before presenting individual awards to them.
A student earns a position on the Presidential Scholar List by maintaining a 4.0-grade point average, having no major discipline issues, and accruing fewer than 15 demerits per semester and fewer than 30 demerits for the academic year.
Honors and awards were presented as follows:
Elizabeth Kyle presented the T12 Citizenship Award to fourth-grader Adaline Erdahl and fifth-grader Bonham Van Doornum.
Kyle also presented the Daughters of the American Revolution Award to sixth-grader Alaina Bray, seventh-grader West Ridlehoover, and eighth-grader Dexter Thompson.
Jo Kimbrel presented Ian Borchers and Maeve Hatcher with the TFS Great Athletic Character Award; Nora Mitchell and Finn NeSmith with the Indian of the Year Award; and Emmanuel Heyl with the Scholar Athlete Award.
Nathan Stanley presented both Owen Earp and Handley James with the PE Student of the Year Award. Sarah Lawrence recognized Nolan Earp for his participation in the Elementary Statewide Honor Chorus and Isabella Ramey for her involvement in the GMEA District 14 Honor Chorus. Lawrence also presented Julianna Nail with the Music Student of the Year Award.
Cat Schappach presented Guy Kennedy with the Art Student of the Year Award; Carrie Layer presented Mitike Kohler with the Drama Student of the Year Award; Stephanie Dorantes presented Kiera Wingo with the Media Production Award and Henry Dumas with the Graphic Design Award; and Ashley Dumas presented Abigail Cruz with the STEM Award.
Outstanding Students of the Year were recognized: Joanna Neely, fourth-grade; Maizee Fleming, fifth-grade; Parker Bryant, sixth-grade; Logan Thompson, seventh-grade; and Dylan Johnson, eighth-grade.
Jonathan Roberts announced the Owls as the House of the Year.
