Fourth Graders Serve At Get Real Ministries

Our fourth-graders recently spent the afternoon volunteering at Get Real Ministries in Baldwin, Georgia, serving others and learning more about their impact on the community.

“We learned about what they do to help and all the stuff they give away and all the stuff they help people with,” said fourth grader Raylan Jones. “We took food and put it in boxes. People who need it will come and pick it up.”

During the visit, students toured the organization’s facilities, including storage areas filled with toys, clothing, and other supplies. “It is for people who can’t really do Christmas,” explained fourth grader Hazel Stapleton. She was also impressed with Get Real’s focus on sustainability: “When we had left over water from a water break, we used it to water the plants.”

Each fourth grader filled two boxes with food, totaling 38 boxes, which will be distributed as part of Get Real’s monthly food distribution outreach. “They give it to families who don’t have enough to get it on their own,” said fourth grader Gabriel Winfield. “I like that we got to put in different kinds of foods. This is generous and kind for Get Real to do.”

In addition to preparing food boxes, students also helped make beds in Get Real’s dorm area, which serves families in crises, such as those displaced by fire. The space also houses mission teams, including a team from Jamaica, when they travel to the United States to do mission work.

The fourth-grade service day is part of the school’s ongoing “Be The Light” service projects, where students engage in community-focused service throughout the year. “We went to serve others in need who don’t have as much as we do and can’t afford as much as we can,” said fourth grader Emory Echols. “We work hard helping others and to be a light and to show respect – to show that we care.”

With a mission of preparing students for leadership and service through academic excellence, character development, and community engagement, through these experiences, TFS students learn the value of service, compassion, and leadership in action.
