Season Preview: Precision Rifle

The Tallulah Falls School precision rifle team seeks to have a historic 2020-21 season, which comes on the heels of what was the best season in the program's early history last year. Leading the charge is coach Tim Stamey, who doesn't hold back on the expectations for TFS this season.

"I’m excited with the athletes we have this year, and they are hungry for success after losing their chance at a championship season last year due to COVID," says Stamey.

A large reason for such excitement is the return of Sam Stamey, who qualified for the Junior Olympics last season, and Madi Perdue. Those two will set the tone for TFS.

"We have two athletes who in my professional opinion have reached the advanced/elite shooter status and I’m excited to have Sam and Madi back this year," says Stamey. "We have other athletes that are working hard to reach those heights."

While the current makeup of the roster bodes well, it's the future of the team that also is bright.

"We picked up three promising new freshmen this fall, and they are as good as any beginning shooters I have seen," states Stamey. "I look forward to Marc Crotta, Brooke Hayes, and Ethan Simmons building on our future."

Last January, Sam Stamey shot well enough at the State Junior Olympic 60 Shot Standing Match to earn an Invitation to the National Junior Olympic Championship in Colorado Springs.

"This season I believe it’s possible to have two athletes earn that privilege and I pray that the National Championship will not be canceled this time," adds Stamey.

The schedule will be fluid throughout the season, but TFS will be ready for any competition it has the opportunity to take part in. The roster has many promising riflers that have the chance to help take the program to new heights.

"We will have one team and possibly two teams make it to the Southeast Regional 3 Position Matches this season, but unfortunately for the athletes those matches will be conducted virtually in our own range in a single match," says Stamey. "We have accomplished shooters and if they apply themselves, it should result in a team making the National 3 Position Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio."

Currently, the next match is slated for November 14 in Anniston, AL.
