Indians of the Week for week ending January 29
TFS has named Indians of the Week for the week of January 24-29. This week's selections are Caroline Ball and Joseph McGahee for high school, and Emily Shoemaker and Elijah Barker for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE WEEK
Caroline Ball - Track & Field
HS Girl
Senior Captain Caroline Ball broke the TFS four year old (800m - 2:47.18) and six year old (1600m - 6:08.37) indoor records by current Sewanee University runner Perry Gresham at Birmingham's Last Chance Invite, held at the CrossPlex, home of the 2022 D1 national championships. Caroline also helped the 4x4 relay team set a new indoor standard (4:33.62). A consummate leader who both inspires and holds accountable, Caroline's work ethic matches her team mentality. -coach Scott Neal
Joseph McGahee - Precision Rifle
HS Boy
Joseph McGahee is a natural leader both in and out of the range. His scores and performance are consistent and steadily improving. He's in the range at every opportunity. And he's always willing to help his fellow teammates with words of encouragement and by sharing his experiences and insight. -coach Katie Keister
Emily Shoemaker - Swimming
MS Girl
The middle school swim team Indian of the Week is seventh grader Emily Shoemaker, a multisport athlete this season, dropped a collective 7 seconds in her 3 individual events on Saturday. Her efforts helped propel the girls' team to a 2nd place finish at the GISA state meet. -coach Rachel Nichols
Elijah Barker - Basketball
MS Boy
The middle school boys basketball nominee for Indian of the Week is eighth grader Elijah Barker. In three really tough games last week, Elijah shot over 55% from the floor averaging four points and over four rebounds per game. More importantly, Elijah responded to his coach's challenges to play more physically and be hungry for rebounds. He is steadily improving and always works hard with the most positive attitude one could have. Even though he is not very vocal on the court, he led his team by example with passion and desire. -coach Anthony Cox
