Matt Heyl just finished his third season as head coach (72-53) of the Lady Indians volleyball program. Heyl took the program to unprecedented heights in 2018 with a record 31 wins and the school's first-ever Sweet 16 appearance, as well as first time finishing as runner-up in the region and a #10-state ranking. In 2019, the team won 22 matches, was ranked #7 in the state, and made the state playoffs for the fifth straight season, again finishing runner-up in region. The 2020 season saw TFS go back to the Sweet 16 and earn another region runner-up finish to go with 19 wins. Heyl has been with TFS for 12 years and serves as a math teacher at the Upper School. He has coached volleyball for over 25 years at multiple levels, including at the Division-II level in Sweden. His own playing career spans over 27 years, with much success in beach volleyball. While in college, he qualified for a professional beach tour along the east coast, and while playing indoor in Florida, was twice on a team that was ranked #1 twice and qualified for two national tournaments. Heyl has five children.
