The TFS middle school teams faced off against River Christian School on Thursday night, losing both matchups. The Lady Indians fell in a close 33-26 loss, while the boys B-Team lost 39-15.

The Lady Indians started off the night. It was a hard-fought first quarter, with River Christian leading at the end 7-5. TFS came back, however, in the second quarter, and at the half led 13-11. The second half began with both teams going back and forth. However, River Christian surged late in the third quarter and took a 24-20 lead into the fourth.

A steal and then score by Nora Mitchell made it 28-26 with three minutes left. But River Christian powered through and were able to hold off the Lady Indians in the end, defeating them 33-26. Mitchell led TFS in scoring with eight points. TFS also had an impressive 29 rebounds for the evening.

“As a team, we’re getting better. We saw a lot of improvement tonight,” said head coach Jenny Long. “We played great defense, but turnovers hurt us in the end. We have to make better decisions with the ball.”

The boys team came on the court next, also against River Christian. The Indians got off to a tough start, ending the first quarter down 15-2. The second quarter did not go much better for TFS, as the trailed 22-6 at the half. The Indians finally got some scoring going in the third quarter, but their defense still struggled, and they entered the fourth quarter trailing 35-13. TFS’s struggles continued, and they lost 39-15.

The girls are now 1-2 on the season, while the boys are at 0-2.
