MS Lady Indians surge back but fall to Towns

The Lady Indians' MS basketball took on Towns County on Thursday evening at home in a crucial Tri-State Conference contest, and dropped a 21-18 final.

Towns County took control early with a 6-0 run to open the game, and Linda White's jumper nearly five minutes in got TFS on the board. The visitors connected on several 3-pointers to pull ahead 14-2. The scoring drought ended when Nora Mitchell knocked in a pair of free throws with only a minute left in the half. The girls trailed 16-4 heading into the break.

The Lady Indians got hot in the second half, and used big shots from Payton McEntire and a Mia Kerr long jumper to pull within 20-10 heading into the fourth. In the final quarter, the defense buckled down to hold Towns to a single point. McEntire had a couple of buckets in the final quarter, while Handley James also came up with a deep two. White had a pair of free throws to get the deficit down to 20-18, but Towns County held on in the closing seconds.

McEntire and White both came away with six points, while James, Nora Mitchell, and Kerr each finished with two. TFS is now 6-7 overall and 3-3 in Tri-State action.
