Valasiuk leads with 16 points in loss against Prince Ave

The Indians suffered a third straight loss with a 57-47 final at home Tuesday against Prince Avenue Christian.

In the first quarter, Jay Taylor knocked in a 3-pointer as TFS was behind 16-10. In the second, a long scoring drought dug the Indians into a hole. However, a triple and driving layup by Zakhar Valasiuk, along with a 3-point play by Taylor, brought the Indians all the way back. Neyo Bain hit a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at 21 apiece. It was a 23-23 game at the break.

The Wolverines drained a flurry of triples as part of a 13-0 run to open the third, taking a wide 36-23 lead. Trailing by 13, the Indians got within six after an electrifying 3-point play by Sam Ketch. It was a 40-34 game heading into the final quarter.

Prince Avenue went on a run late in the fourth to go back up by double digits and put the game away, though TFS made it interesting on a late 3-pointer by Stevan Gabric to bridge the deficit to seven points with a minute to go. Valasiuk ended with 16 points, and was followed by Taylor with 10, Gabric with seven, Hayden Bootle six, five for Bain, and three points by Ketch.

The Indians fall to 4-13 on the season with the loss.

Meanwhile, the JV boys won by a 53-42 margin to improve to 6-3 on the year. Todor Stanimirovic had a team-high 12 points, while both Armando Landecho Cedeno and Marquis Rolle had 10 apiece. Judah McIntosh had nine, Tomas Bogusevicius had eight, and Ivo Dorkovic four.
