Head of School Dr. Larry A. Peevy Presented With a Quilt by Quilts of Valor Federation

At the Tallulah Falls School January Board of Trustees meeting, board member Alice Cookie Noel, a member of the Quilts of Valor committee for South Central Georgia and for the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild, presented President and Head of School Dr. Larry A. Peevy with a quilt created by Kathy Henderson, a member of the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation (QVF) is a grassroots group of quilters across America that makes quilts for veterans to express respect and appreciation to service members and veterans. These quilts have a three-part message: honor, thank you, and comfort.

Dr. Peevy served in the United States military for 23 years. He held many positions and received multiple awards for his service. He volunteered for his military career toward the end of the Vietnam War as an enlisted man and ended his service as an officer. His career included both active duty and reserve time during which he participated on active duty as a transportation officer during Operation Desert Storm.

“I have known Dr. Peevy for years and I have been a trustee for a while,” said Cookie. “Larry served our country and now he serves students.” Cookie sees that what he has done at TFS is the epitome of discipline, not leaving anyone behind, taking care of one another, and striving for leadership. “The attributes that we see at the school – these were enhanced by Peevy’s time serving our country,” said Cookie. “This is why I nominated him to receive the quilt,” she said. “Our servicemen and women need to know they are appreciated, especially as many are continuing to serve in other ways.”

“Thank you Cookie Noel, Kathy Henderson and the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild,” said Dr. Peevy. “It is a great honor to be the recipient of such a beautiful gift.”
