Season Preview: MS Golf

The MS golf teams are set to pen a new chapter in 2024. Following a season in which the girls went a perfect 6-0 and won the inaugural MS Golf Area Championship, that side of the team looks to build off that success. The boys went 1-5 overall, and between both teams, there were six low medalist performances.

“This team looks to be as strong as ever,” says coach Jadie Hatcher. “We had record participation in our Fall MS Golf Club and this indicates interest in the TFS program, which is continuing to grow year to year.”

Though standout golfer Bella Hulsey has left TFS, the girls will turn to other experienced individuals this season, including Maeve Hatcher, who tied for 1st-place in last year’s championship.

“The girls will be anchored with several returning 7th-graders: Hatcher, Sadie Hensley, and Handley James, and one returning 8th-grader in Catherine Harris,” adds Hatcher. “With several newcomers expected to join the team, we are excited to show continued growth in our team and our performance for 2023.”

Meanwhile, the boys have some solid 7th-graders who got invaluable experience last season. Those include Owen Earp, Maddox English, Josh Newell, and Keller Van Orman.

“Again, we had several new faces joining the 2023 Fall MS Golf Club and expect to have a very full team compared to last year's group,” adds Hatcher. “I've personally seen several of these players putting in extensive practice in the offseason and this looks to set the expectations for success very high.”

The schedule features a February 26 opener at The Orcharcd against White County. Nine of the 13 total events on the slate will be played there.

“While we do keep scores in matches, our success will be evaluated in the joy and skill growth we have over the next few months,” states Hatcher. “Due to the growth in participants, the 2024 teams will have a team manager helping organize practices and assist players. 5th-grader Charlotte Hatcher will be the Team Manager. As my second year as the head coach, I can’t wait until February gets here and I get to spend my afternoons with such a great group of kids.”
