JV Indians sweep double header at Commerce

 
 

The JV Indians dominated in a double header at Commerce, taking an 11-3 win in game one and 16-1 in the second Thursday evening.

GM 1

TFS set the tone early with a 4-run first. Jackson Savage had a sac fly, a run scored off an error forced by a hard ground ball from Asa Popham. William NeSmith singled home a couple to push it to 4-0. Commerce responded with three runs in the home half.

Justin Smith brought home a run to double up on the Tigers, 6-3. Savage then doubled in Smith, and Merrick Carnes later in the inning singled in Popham, all capping a 5-run third. 

Up 9-3, Tallulah Falls added two more in the fifth, as NeSmith recorded another RBI hit. The Indians had 11 hits, with NeSmith going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Smith and Jordan Miller had two hits apiece, while Savage and Carnes also recorded two RBI. Miller scored a team-high three runs.

Griffin Harkness went two innings and gave up three runs, striking out five against three hits and two walks. Robert Grant got the win by going three innings, giving up no runs on one hit and three walks while striking out five.

GM 2

The boys took a 16-0 lead into the fifth of the second game, and secured the 16-1 win to complete the sweep.

TFS racked up 17 hits. It was only 1-0 after the second frame, but the Indians stretched it to 4-0 in the third. Drew Barron singled home a run, Smith doubled in Barron, and Savage brought in Smith with a base hit to left. It snowballed for Commerce, as TFS scored five in the fourth and seven in the fifth.

Garrett Dorsey had an RBI single in the fourth, while Grant doubled in a pair. In the fifth, Brantley Allen had a sac fly and Smith recorded another RBI hit in the outburst. Savage and Popham also had RBI hits in the inning.

Savage had three hits in the win, as did Harkness and NeSmith. Smith, Popham, and Dorsey all had two hits each in the second game. Grant had a team-high four RBI, while Barron led with three runs scored. Smith and Savage had two RBI apiece.

Barron meanwhile took the win, going four innings while giving up just one hit and two walks and striking out 10. Smith worked the final frame.

TFS is now 2-0 on the season.
