Eight named All-Region for 8-A DI

 
 

Region 8-A DI named its All-Region honorees on the final night of the region tournament. Eight from Tallulah Falls earned distinction.

For the Lady Indians, Breelyn Wood earned All-Region status after leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. The junior forward averaged 13.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 17 blocks, which ranks third in school history in a single season. Wood had a 22-rebound performance also, which was one off the single-game mark. 

Adrijana Albijanic, Millie Holcomb, Haygen James, and Allie Phasavang were all Honorable Mentions. Albijanic, a senior post player, averaged 2.7 points and 6.3 boards per contest. Holcomb as a junior had a breakout year with 4.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. James, also a junior, averaged 8.8 points and 6.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.9 steals. She had a 15- and 14-rebound game during the season. Phasavang, a senior leader, went for 7.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and led the team in assists (2.5), steals (2.5), and 3-pointers made (29).

The Indians were represented by senior All-Region selection Zakhar Valasiuk. The guard is second in scoring for TFS at 9.9 points, but has made a team-high 31 3-pointers and shoots 79% from the free throw line. Sophomore Neyo Bain and junior Hayden Bootle were Honorable Mentions. Bain is an electric guard, putting up a school record eight steals in a game, and had seven prior to tie the record as well as three other 6-steal games. His 11.1 points per game leads the team, and he recently had a 30-point game which represented one of only eight 30-point games in school history. His 2.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game lead the team. Bootle has been a steady playmaker as a junior. The forward averages 8.7 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. He shoots 50% from the floor, which is also best on the team.
