State Preview: Golf

Tallulah Falls golf is set to compete on Monday in the GHSA State Championship tournaments. Two different locations, but expecting the same kind of success. The two-day event will see the boys travel to Statesboro at Georgia Southern Golf Course, while the girls go to Metter at Willow Lakes.

The Lady Indians earned a spot at state with an Area Championship - the first since 2021 and fifth in program history. Junior Mallory Higgins carded an 85 at Arrowhead State Park in Elberton to earn low medalist honors. She's the first area champion since Maggie Jackson (2018 & 2021). Fellow juniors Raegan Duncan, Madeline Martin, and Lily Turpin came in 4th, 7th, and 15th, respectively at the Area Championship. Higgins will seek to play her best in leading the efforts on Monday and Tuesday.

The Indians meanwhile got to state via a dramatic 3rd-place finish at Area which required a playoff hole to clinch. Junior Will Greene was the team's low medalist with a 90, placing 11th individually. Sophomore Rylee Smith (93) was 13th and sophomore Tate Turpin (94) was 15th. Freshman Ryder Cantrell and sophomore Jack Thomson also place in the top-20, while Hunter Bell was 30th at Area. The group notched a second straight state bid, making the only team qualifications in program history. Cantrell's 40 at The Orchard against Banks County this season remains the best 9-hole score for TFS.
