The Tallulah Falls School varsity golf Lady Indians are the 2018 Area 2 Champions.

In the tournament held April 30 at Jennings Mill in Athens, combined scores pushed the team to the top of the leaderboard, with freshman Maggie Jackson of Clarkesville shooting an 81 to finish first.

Senior Jenny Wang of China finished third with an 85 and freshman Brinson Hall of Mt. Airy finished fourth with an 87.

The team set several individual and team records in the process, including Jackson’s 18-hole individual score of 81; Wang with a 9-hole individual at 39; a two-score team 9-holes at 79; a two-score team 18-holes at 166; a three-score team 9-hole at 120; and a three-score team 18-hole at 253.

This team has earned Area championship honors for the past two out of three years, said coach Allen Campbell.

“The girls have worked very hard to obtain this goal,” Campbell said. “They have put in a great deal of time outside of practice and outside of the season to get the most out of their talents. I know other players from other schools have worked hard as well but thank the Lord it all came together for these young ladies.”

The team travels to the Georgia High School Association state championship on May 20-21 at the Heron Bay Golf Club in Locust Grove.

“We look forward to the GHSA state tournament, knowing a lot of strong teams that will be there. We will have to play the best golf of our season to compete against those teams consistently in the upper echelon of girls golf in Georgia,” Campbell added.
