Season Preview: Swimming

Tallulah Falls School swimmers are riding the wave of last year's historic season. In 2019-20, the boys swim team set seven new school records and finished 7th at the GHSA State Meet, which marked the highest finish ever for the program.

Numbers were down last season, but there is an uptick in the participation as TFS suits up for the 2020-21 season.

"We are excited for this upcoming season," states coach Rachel Nichols. "We are growing in numbers and experience as a program. With the opening of the new facility on the horizon, we have a lot of positive energy from swimmers as well as coaches."

Indeed, the brand new, state-of-the-art TFS Natatorium, attracts many to the sport. The success of last year helps as well. The boys will be without recent TFS grads John Nichols (2nd Team All-State), Riley Barron (3rd Team All-State), Caden Griffis (3rd Team) and Hunter Weyrich (3rd Team). However, there are plenty of opportunities for others to step up and duplicate that success.

"Our returning swimmers are excited to continue their successes from last season," adds Nichols. "Many swimmers were excited following the conclusion of last season and were prepared to train hard over the summer. Due to the pandemic, many did not get to compete during the summer months. These swimmers are excited to be back in the pool. The culture of excitement for the season has carried over to our new team members who are nervous but ready to compete in their first meet."

The swim team consists of 31 at the high school level and 22 at the middle school level. The season begins on Saturday, October 31 at Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville in the Mask-erade Meet at 9 AM.
