JV splits in Thursday night action

The JV volleyball team split a pair of matches on Thursday evening at home, dropping one to White County 2-0 before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Rabun.

The girls struggled against their opponents from White County, drawing the short end of the stick with a 2-0 loss; nonetheless, they came back with a stunning victory against Rabun County with a 2-0 finish.

The match against White County proved to be troublesome, but a silver lining could be found in junior Marissa Gergeni. Gergeni shared a great amount of patience and encouragement toward her younger teammates. Claire Kelly also proved to be a key piece as a hitter, notably in the match against Rabun County.

“Claire did a great job today staying on the net and getting in the middle,” says coach Matt Crotta. “She did an awesome job with a few long runs as well, which are huge when it comes to volleyball.”

Crotta points to the improvements his team made throughout the matches.

“I think I could only count one misserve out of all of our serves today," says Crotta. "That’s what makes the difference against tough opponents like Rabun County and White County.”

The Lady Indians earned their second win of the young season, and are currently 2-5.

SCORE RECAP

L 0-2 vs White County: 22-25, 21-25
W 2-0 vs Rabun County: 25-11, 25-12
