Lady Indians MS soccer ends season on high note with 2-0 win

The Lady Indians MS soccer team closed the 2021 season in style with a clean sheet win, 2-0, over Rabun Gap on the road Wednesday evening.

"It was an excellent way to end the season," says coach Laura Higbie. "We tied Rabun Gap last week 1-1, so we knew it was going to be a tight match."

Higbie and the Lady Indians entered with what she considered a bold strategy, starting backup keeper Allison York and pressing high for the first 30 minutes.

"The plan worked, as we had multiple scoring chances early and often," says Higbie.

Josie Chesser opened the scoring with a beautiful long goal prior to the end of the first half. TFS answered Rabun Gap’s second half intensity with a goalkeeper change to Gemma Farris. She held them off the rest of the match.

TFS notched the second goal late in the game on a Chesser unassisted corner kick.

"What an exciting final match," states Higbie. "I’m most proud that all 17 players had playing time today and contributed to this win. We showed up, played boldly and it really paid off. What an honor to have coached this wonderful group of young ladies. The transformation of this team from the beginning of the season to today was amazing. Coach Mullis, Coach Chesser and I are grateful to TFS staff and parents for all they have for us done this season."

The girls end the 2021 season with a 2-6-3 overall record.
