MS swimmers take 1st place combined boys/girls at GIAA State Championships

 
 

The TFS MS swim team are the combined State Champions after a stellar performance at the GIAA State Championship. The Lady Indians and Indians both came in second, but together were atop the standings.

"These kids had their best meet of the year, earning the top spot overall for the second year in a row," says coach Tamara Griffis.

TFS was first among 23 schools, and nearly all swimmers put up personal-best times. The girls 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relays won the state title, as did Henry Dumas in the 50 Breast.

Top-10 finishes included:

GIRLS

  • 200 Medley Relay (1st): Veronica Verberkmoes, Ida Patterson, Elizabeth Stafford, Lexi Gibson
  • 200 Free Relay (A) (1st): Patterson, Gibson, Staford, Verberkmoes
  • Ida Patterson - 2nd in 50 Breast; 3rd in 50 Fly; 4th in 100 IM
  • Veronica Verberkmoes - 7th in 100 Free; 8th in 50 Back; 10th in 50 Free
  • Elizabeth Stafford - 8th in 50 Fly; 9th in 100 Free; 10th in 50 Breast
  • 200 Free Relay (B): (9th): Catherine Harris, Gracie Gunter, Deratu Kohler, Julianna Nail

BOYS

  • Henry Dumas - 1st in 50 Breast; 2nd in 100 Free; 3rd in 50 Free
  • 200 Medley Relay (A) (3rd): Sam Belk, Logan Thompson, Henry Dumas, Brody Irvin
  • 200 Free Relay (A) (3rd): Thompson, York, Irvin, Dumas
  • Brody Irvin - 6th in 100 Free; 10th in 50 Free
  • 200 Medley Relay (B) (7th): Hudson Penland, Thatcher Tatum, Brody Dampier, Sebastian York
  • Logan Thompson - 8th in 100 IM; 10th in 50 Breast
  • Brody Dampier - 9th in 50 Fly
  • Thatcher Tatum - 9th in 50 Back
