Josie Chesser’s game-winning free kick goal punches Sweet 16 ticket

#6-ranked Tallulah Falls earned a 2-1 win on Wednesday against Prince Avenue Christian in the opening round of the state playoffs. With the win, the girls advance to their second straight Sweet 16.

With a steady rain coming down, it took until late in the first half for TFS to start putting shots on goal. Despite some close misses, sophomore Bailey Crumley took a shot from just inside the box. Her shot cleared the keeper and went in for the 1-0 lead with 13:29 left in the half. That lead held through the break.

The rain let up in the second half, but the Lady Wolverines didn’t. They equalized on a header following a corner kick with 27:15 left in regulation. LB Kafsky otherwise was solid in goal, filling in for an injured Kyndal Anderson. She made several key saves (13 total) while displaying her athleticism.

With 18:30 on the clock, Josie Chesser took a free kick from long range, and placed it perfectly over the goalie for the game-winner. The defense held strong from there.

"The game was a tough one for us," says coach Erin Jimenez. "Our starting keeper was out and our freshman forward had to step in. She was phenomenal. The girls were not on their best game tonight but when it came down to it - they made it happen. And they truly deserve the title of Sweet 16."

TFS moves on to the second round, and is now 11-4 on the season.
