Indians cruise to Sweet 16 with flurry of goals

Tallulah Falls won with ease on Wednesday evening against visiting Prince Avenue Christian, winning 10-0 behind an offensive clinic. The win nets the boys a second straight Sweet 16.

Clay Kafsky scored the first goal less than 10 minutes in, with Jackson Cording assisting. Jake Wehrstein then headed one in on a pass from Kale Borchers. Borchers then scored off a ball from Kafsky for the 3-0 advantage. The onslaught continued with Landon Hall scoring on a helper from Wehrstein. Ball then put in a free kick for the 5-0 lead. All five goals came within five minutes.

Hall later scored on an assist from Borchers, and Wehrstein headed in his second goal on Kafsky’s well-placed corner kick. The #2-ranked Indians were up 7-0 at the half, with a 20-minute clock for the second half.

Wehrstein completed his first career hat trick with a  goal to open the second half, with Hall assisting. Hall again had a pass that led to a goal, with Borchers putting in his second. Borchers triggered the mercy rule with his third goal to secure a hat trick. Kelton Reynolds had three saves in goal.

“The guys played great,” says coach Jeremy Stille. “Very motivated and focused on performing well tonight. They showed up for each other, played intelligent soccer and forced Prince Avenue to chase the ball. They worked the ball around great.”

The Indians are now 15-1 on the season and move on to the Sweet 16.
